Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

No matter the kind, surgery can be an overwhelming and intimidating experience to go through. At marpole physiotherapy, we will communicate with your surgeon and obtain knowledge of the surgeon’s protocols to ensure the most optimal rehabilitation outcome. Your physiotherapist will advise you on how to manage your rehab at home, how to use your crutches, cast or sling properly, and will help you with overall pain control. In addition, your physio can help educate you regarding the healing and rehabilitation process on topics that may not have been addressed fully by your surgeon.

Common Types of Surgeries

Some common types of surgeries include, but are not limited to:

  • Joint replacement surgery
  • Total knee replacement
  • Total hip replacement
  • Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction
  • Shoulder joint replacement
  • Spinal surgery
  • Other shoulder surgeries pertaining to: dislocated shoulder, torn rotator cuff muscle(s)

Regardless of the kind of surgery, our therapists are experienced in providing treatment to ease any pain and teach you specific strength and stability exercises that will be vital to your recovery. The strength and length of the surrounding muscles must be balanced to rehabilitate successfully and for you to regain the full, pain-free movements that you enjoyed prior to undergoing surgery.
